Nikon D600 | 24.3 MP | $2099

The Nikon D600 is a full frame FX entry level DSLR. It features a 24.3MP sensor, similar to the Sony A99. It is the most affordable full frame DSLR to date, and it comes at a more affordable price than any FX camera before it. Constructed of mostly plastic, it is more portable with less weight. I have pre-ordered it and look forward to the review.

Affordable FX Zoom | Versatile

This older 24-85mm AF-S is an inexpensive FX zoom. This is the non-VR version. It was discontinued in 2006. But its optical performance is surprisingly great for its price. It is light weight and portable, and costs $300 used. Read more to see how it performs.

I am more than pleased with the performance of the 28mm f/1.8G. It's optical performance is matched up with the 24mm f/1.4G at less than 3 times the cost and half the weight. Nikon did a superb job with the design and it makes an excellent companion to the other 1.8 primes.
